Foster and Adoption Medicals

Keeping the workforce happy, healthy & safe

Anyone planning to foster or adopt a child must undergo a medical to ensure they are fit for the role. This medical will assess if you are both physically and psychologically fit enough to cope with the demands of caring for a child or young person.

The medical will include the following:

  •         A screening questionnaire to identify any current or underlying medical problems
  •         A review of your lifestyle
  •         You family medical history
  •         A complete physical examination including height, weight, Blood pressure, urine test
  •         A medical examination.

You may not be excluded if you have a disability, but you will need to be assessed to ensure you can provide the required standard of care for the child/young person.

If you are a patient of Bradford on Avon and Melksham Health Partnership, we will ask you to give consent for us to access your GP notes.

If you are not a patient of Bradford on Avon and Melksham Health Partnership, we ask you to bring a summary of your GP notes with you to the appointment.
