A safety critical role is where the ill health of an individual may compromise their ability to undertake a task defined as safety critical and thereby pose a significant risk to the health and safety of others. We recommend that a safety critical medical should be undertaken before a new employee starts working in their new role.
We suggest that the medical should be repeated every 3 years or earlier if the employee develops a new medical problem which may affect their ability to perform all duties of their role or following long term sickness absence.
A Safety Critical Medical can include any of the following tests depending on your risk assessments:
A screening questionnaire to include hearing, vision, lung function, vibration, medication review, skin, substance exposure.
A medical examination by a nurse or doctor.
Urinalysis
Height weight BMI
Blood pressure
ECG
Audiometry
Visual testing
Spirometry
HAVS Examination
Mobility assessment
Fitness test - Chester Step test.
Blood or urine tests to detect exposure levels if required.
